Complete deck makeover with full coverage and a hot tub

This project involved replacing an aging, multi-level wood deck with outdated railings and a pergola structure. The existing deck was sagging and lacked both the space and structural integrity required to safely support a hot tub.

EconoWise removed the existing deck surface and railings, then modified and reinforced the pressure-treated framing. A new concrete pad was installed to properly support the hot tub.

To enhance functionality and year-round use, an aluminum patio cover with tempered, tinted glass was attached to the home, fully covering both sections of the deck. This design allows natural light to flow into the kitchen and family room while seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor living spaces, keeping the area dry and comfortable throughout the year.

Clear glass perimeter railings replaced the original dark wood, opening unobstructed views of the surrounding garden and greenery. A new aluminum gate was also installed, adding privacy and security while contributing to a clean, modern aesthetic.

The upgraded, single-level covered composite deck now offers a durable, low-maintenance surface, allowing the family to fully enjoy their outdoor space. The result is a cohesive and functional outdoor living area that blends form and function—an ideal setting for both relaxation and entertaining.

Project size: Deck in 2 sections: 24’ x 10’ + 12’ x 26’; Patio cover 24’ x 14’ + 16’ x 28’

Materials used: Pressure treated wood deck structure; concrete pad; composite surface planks; powder coated aluminum patio cover frame, 5mm tempered glass panels; side mounted, clear glass railings; aluminum handrails and wide picket style gate and railings.

Composite deck with wood benches, and a peaked patio cover with cedar accents

EconoWise began by removing the existing wood planks and conducting a thorough assessment of the underlying structure. The framing was reinforced with properly spaced joists and solid beams, ensuring long-term strength, stability, and compliance with structural standards. Careful attention was given to the framing alignment with the home’s layout, keeping the angled sections and seamless transitions along the rear façade. Concrete footings were newly poured to ensure stable support for the posts of a pergola-style patio cover with a peaked design. At this stage, low-maintenance composite decking was installed to provide a durable, weather-resistant surface with a clean, uniform finish. Cedar posts were securely anchored to the concrete footings, establishing the framework for the overhead structure.

The final phase involved constructing a peaked pergola-style patio cover integrated directly into the deck. An aluminum structure was framed on the posts, and decorative cedar inserts were added to decorate the beams of the sloped roof system, which was completed with bronze-tinted glass panels. These panels offer protection from rain while reducing heat and UV exposure, creating a more comfortable outdoor environment. Finishing touches included integrated steps for smooth access to the yard and built-in bench seating along the perimeter, adding both functionality and visual appeal.

The result is a fully transformed outdoor space that combines structural integrity with a modern design.

Converting an old deck into a sunroom with a covered BBQ area

The original structure consisted of an aging, two-level wood deck with traditional picket railings and a lower enclosed storage area.  It offered limited functionality and lacked the structural integrity needed for modern use. Its segmented layout disrupted flow, while the absence of proper weather protection restricted how often the space could be enjoyed. The partially enclosed under-deck area remained underutilized, contributing little to the overall usability or visual appeal of the backyard.

Econowise transformed the space into a modern, single-level sunroom complemented by a covered barbecue area. A waterproof vinyl surface was installed throughout, providing a long-lasting, low-maintenance flooring solution for both indoor and outdoor use. The structural upgrades ensure enhanced strength and stability, supporting the demands of year-round living.

The sunroom features double-glazed glass walls with a tempered, double-glazed roof. This design allows natural light to pour into both the sunroom and the adjacent indoor dining area, creating a bright, open atmosphere, while the covered outdoor section remains dry and comfortable for barbecuing in all seasons.

Sleek aluminum railings with clear glass panels replace the original wood, opening a view of the yard and elevating the overall aesthetic. The staircase has been rebuilt to improve access and flow, and the under-deck area is now open, cleanly finished, and accessible through a gate.

Project Size: Deck 22’ x 12’.  Sunroom 15’ x 12’ and patio cover 8’ x 11’

Materials used: Pressure-treated wood deck; waterproof vinyl surface; thermally-broken aluminum sunroom frame; double-glazed glass windows; insulated panel lower wall sections; single-glazed, tempered patio cover glass panels; power-coated, simple picket style aluminum railings; side-mounted clear glass railings for the deck perimeter.

New entrance deck and carport for a modular home

This project was completed in full compliance with municipal bylaws and permitting requirements. Detailed technical drawings were prepared by a certified engineer, who also provided structural certifications for all installed components. EconoWise began by installing properly engineered foundations for both the deck and the carport posts, ensuring all structural elements met code requirements. A pressure-treated wood deck was then built at the main entry level, finished with a fully waterproof vinyl surface providing durability and protection.

The deck structure was paired with a carport that extends seamlessly over both the deck and the adjacent driveway. This integrated design was executed in alignment with the approved plans, creating a cohesive, weather-protected space that enhances both usability and structural performance. The roofing system utilizes insulated panels, selected not only for their durability but also to protect from heat and direct sunlight exposure.  Throughout the construction process, EconoWise maintained close coordination with the client, the engineer, and municipal inspectors. Multiple site visits and inspections were conducted at key stages to verify compliance with approved drawings, structural standards, and local building regulations.

The result is a fully permitted, professionally engineered outdoor structure that maximizes space efficiency by combining outdoor living with protected parking. The covered deck functions as a natural extension of the home, while the adjoining carport ensures reliable shelter for vehicles—delivering a highly versatile outdoor environment.

Project size: Deck 24’ x10’ ; carport 42’ x 12’

Materials Used: Following the technical drawings from the Engineer, proper footings were prepared; pressure-treated wood; waterproof vinyl surface; aluminum frame and insulated panels for the carport; top-mounted, simple picket-style aluminum railings; and PVC lattice deck skirting.
